Hello, everyone, I need to take a survey of VMS Internet software. To date, the only product I am remotely familiar with is Dave Kashtan's, OOPS! I mean Wollongong's TCP/IP product, and the various Internet utilities built (ported?) on top of it. I have also heard rumblings about Pheonix and Tektronics. For all those familiar with this stuff, I need to answer the following specific questions for each nominated package: 1. Are they TRUELY native mode development packages, or are the JAUP (Just another UNIX port) ? 2. Do they provide good, complete callable interfaces? (Some examples would be nice here) 3. Do they work within the VMS networking scheme, or do they run in parallel (conflict?) ? For example, the psuedo-device bit. 4. What is the general software architecture of the package? (Sort of an extension of (3)). 5. Is the product commercial, or public domain? If commercial, what is the cost for licensing and/or (forced?) maintenance? 6. What have been people's experiences with both the reliability of the product and the company/institution issuing (supporting?) the product? (Some examples would be nice here too.) Please include the number of times it has taken the company to get things right (!?). 7. What are the names of some contacts for these packages. Please send these to me privately. I will contact the people and ask permission to broadcast their names. A lot to ask, I know, and it has probably been asked before. But, I would like to see a comparison of all the known products. If interest dictates, I would be glad to summarize and post results. Thanx to all in advance, Jeff
