Does anybody know: What the order number is for the fiche updates that we are no longer receiving with the VMS maintainance? I want to order this before V4.5 so we don't have an interuption in our service. Whether the HSC50 Software is now something you buy as software as opposed to receiving it through field service? What the order numbers are, and whether we have to pay for it since we have had our HSC for a year and a half now? We are currently at V210 and I think we need V250. Whether Volume Shadowing is or was like RSX where although unbundled you could get licenses for free if you had a VMS license at the right time? The Culver City Sales Office seems unable or unwilling to answer these questions. We have also been waiting over nine months for them to start sending us our MMS and DEC/Shell updates we purchased with the products. Is their anyone in Southern California who IS satisfied dealing with these people? Kenneth Adelman Caltech

As to the fiche, there was a blurb in the latest edition of Insight. It gave some info, but mentioned that a site must have a valid "Source License" to get the fiche service. I'm not sure what that means. >Whether the HSC50 Software is now something you buy as software as opposed to >receiving it through field service? They did ours. And they say they will do V300. They also provide the CI microcode, which must also be updated (V7, I think). >Whether Volume Shadowing is or was like RSX where although unbundled you could >get licenses for free if you had a VMS license at the right time? At DECUS in Dallas we were told we were grandfathered in IF we had a VAX with an HSC at the time of V4.4 release, but no ordering info was provided. >The Culver City Sales Office seems unable or unwilling to answer these >questions. Sounds like you need to start going up the ladder at DEC, starting with your unit manager (or whatever the boss of the sales force is called). DEC is trying very hard to make its sales force more responsive. We have seen dramatic improvements in northern CA over the past couple of years. R.
