[mod.computers.vax] Laser printer query

STEINBERGER@SRI-KL.ARPA (Richard Steinberger) (09/08/86)

I'm temporarily leasing an apple laserwriter plus to user with a uVAX II
system. The only way I've been able to use it is to run the files I want
to print through RUNOFF (DSR) with the following lines of code concatenated
to the beginning of a file:
.RM 80
.LM 0
.NF
.NJ
.KEEP

The laser switch is set to "special." This seems to work, but is a bit
kludgy. Does anyone have a "Postscript-producer" or is what I am doing
the best to be hoped for with the Apple?

Further query: Digital is of course pushing their LN03 laser printer.
Does anyone have any comments on this device? More importantly, is
there any (free?) graphics software for it? Would anyone care to recommend
other brands?

Thanks in advance.

I wonder if there's support for PostScript in RUNOFF in V4.4
(considering DEC's upcoming PostScript laser printer),
or if they will supply an LN03 to PostScript translator.
`help runoff file /device' doesn't mention PostScript.
Does anyone know?

In the original question about printing files on the Apple LW
I don't see why they have to run their files through runoff.
Could you give more detail?
