[mod.computers.vax] QUOTA.SYS Reading

zar@Xhmeia.Caltech.Edu (Perfect Tommy) (09/10/86)

I have been using FORTRAN open statements for 2 VMS versions to read
QUOTA.SYS files in a completely non-standard fashion with full knowledge
that the format can change on me at any time. I open the files SHARED
and READONLY and use the following fields:
	bytes 5-6	Member # of the UIC
	bytes 7-8	Group # of UIC
	bytes 9-12	disk usage for this UIC
I also know this value may not be EXACT because of cacheing (sp?). SO
WHAT? Well, I don't know. Can anyone tell me that this is bad or harm-
ful? Geez. It sure is a H__L of a lot easier than constructing $QIO
calls or worse yet program in MACRO.

{When in doubt read the manuals?!?!? Is this a pun?}
