I've helped design a uVax II network on campus and have run into difficulties. Due to renovation delays, we've had to consider a **temporary** redesign. Two uVax II's are to be networked over an Ethernet. Due to the aforementioned renovation delays, only one uVax is to be installed and will be up and running for some time before the second unit. The first unit is now supposed to have the following boards in it: 1 x DEQNA-M 1 x DHV-11-AP 1 x CS02/HA 2 x DPV-11-AP The two DPV-11 boards are to be used for a BITNET and a 3270 emulation connection. Looks good up to the two DPV-11's, right? According to the "Vax Systems and Options Catalog," April-June 1986, p. 1.121, "2.3 Networking Hardware Options", one is to "choose only one networking option per system" in regards the DEQNA-M and the DPV11-M. I can't seem to find information on whether or not a DEQNA-M can be combined with one or more DPV-11-AP's. DEC engineers claim that there's no problem with the proposed configuration. Can one run a DEQNA-M and two DPV-11-AP boards on the same uVax II? Is there anything odd about the configuration? -- Bernie Chowdhury Columbia University Data Communications Group -------
