I don't think you can set the defaults, but you could define a key to be the nasty long command you are tired of typing. Create a file called PSI$PAD_INIT.COM or point the logical PSI$PAD_INIT at a file containing, for example, "DEFINE/KEY KP0 SET LOG_FILE ..." and you'll just have to hit the keypad key to enable logging.
