Some time ago there have been some notes in INFOVAX regarding the LN03. We want to install an LN03 Laser-Printer at our VAX 750. The reason is that we need a high quality printer for TEX output. The LN03 will be connected via a DMF-32. Does anybody have any experience with such a configuration ? What TEX Output Drivers do you have (public domain?) ? What are the hardware requirements for the LN03 (RAM extensions) ? Do you download the fonts or do you send pixel format to the printer ? Thanks in advance for your responses. Clemens Wermelskirchen

Hello. We have an LN03 connected to a serial DMF-32 port on our VAX 8600 that we use for both TeX and text output. On the VMS TeX distribution tape (available from Kellerman & Smith) is a program called DVITOLN3 that will convert a TeX .DVI file to LN03 format. The program embeds the TeX fonts into the .LN3 file, so the appropriate fonts are dowloaded at the start of each job. This is inefficient, but doesn't really bother us here because the LN03 is not our primary TeX output device. Also, the price of the software is right (it's free). Once the file has been translated via DVI2LN3, we print it using the standard print symbiont. We have to use the /NOFEED qualifier. Enough TeX fonts are included on the tape to do LaTeX output on the LN03. We haven't gotten around to experimenting with making new fonts for the LN03. -------

Can you give me more detailed information on how to get a copy of the TeX VMS distribution tape you write about. We very much need to get some typesetting capability on our LN03 from a VMS VS2. Jeff Siegal MIT EECS Dept. -------
