[mod.computers.vax] VMS resource accounting

linscomb@NGP.UTEXAS.EDU (Thomas J. Linscomb) (10/17/86)

I guess my response to those who want super accurate resource accounting
on VMS goes as follows. Under the current system we charge $100 per cpu
hour. With the inaccuracies in VMS accounting this can be as high (pulling
a figure out of the air) as $120/hr or lo and behold as low as $80/hr. Of
course a super accurate accounting system could be developed but the effect
with the overhead might be $200/hr. I prefer to take my chances and use
the system performance in more productive ways then figuring charge-back.
Frankly, I can't get excited about this subject. Maybe thats not totally
true, the other scarce resource in this equation is VMS developers' time.
