[mod.computers.vax] RMS with non-file-oriented devices

egisin%watmath.waterloo.edu@RELAY.CS.NET (Eric Gisin) (10/19/86)

VMS documentation says almost nothing regarding RMS IO
on non-file-oriented devices; so I have a few questions.
I'm interested in details on IO on mailboxes and network devices.
Can you use multiple buffers and read-ahead and write-behind
to improve performance on these devices?
Do GETs/PUTs always translate into a single QIOW?
What is the default buffer size of 256 on NET devices used for by RMS?
