Okay here is one that has me foxed. Twice this week, our machine hung up ...yes that's right. How we got to learn of it is as follows: as part of crontab we print out the time every half an hour on the console. It stopped doing that, even tapping a return on the console keyboard did not bring forth the regular login: prompt (of course every other terminal was hung too!). In one case it was doing nothing, the machine was totally idle (ie no users were logged on). The only thing we could do was hit the reset button to boot up. We are running a DEC VAX-11/750 with UNIX 4.2 bsd. Has anybody else experienced this? Under what conditions, how did you solve it? I will of course summarize and post to the net if folks are interested.
