One thing to remember. When modifying the file's record length in order to get the thing back to what BACKUP expects, you should also remember to fix the maximum record length. If you, for example, FTP a save-set over to VMS and mung the fixed-512 byte record length back to 8192 BACKUP will be able to restore from it. You will, however, have some problems if you try to write the file onto tape with COPY. Apparently, when writing to tape, COPY uses the file's max record length for it's internal buffer size and you will get "Record too large for user's buffer" errors from COPY since the records exceed the max record length. /Kevin Carosso kvc%engvax.uucp@usc-oberon.usc.edu Hughes Aircraft Co.
