[mod.computers.vax] VMS save-sets on UNIX

KVC@ENGVAX.UUCP.UUCP (12/02/86)

One thing to remember. When modifying the file's record length in order
to get the thing back to what BACKUP expects, you should also remember
to fix the maximum record length. If you, for example, FTP a save-set
over to VMS and mung the fixed-512 byte record length back to 8192 BACKUP
will be able to restore from it. You will, however, have some problems
if you try to write the file onto tape with COPY. Apparently, when writing
to tape, COPY uses the file's max record length for it's internal buffer size
and you will get "Record too large for user's buffer" errors from COPY since
the records exceed the max record length.
