Ever since VMS 4.0 I have on occasion seen this bug, which happened again tonight on a VMS 4.4 system. I have not tried very hard to reproduce it to send in an SPR, but will do so soon. I would appreciate hearing from anyone who has a good workaround. I make a digest of Info-VAX articles for local redistribution. While making the archive I move a message to a folder named "info-vax", and go on to the next message by pressing the"return" key. Usually that is another message from Info-VAX, so I hit the up-arrow key (recalling the "move info-vax" command) followed by two carriage-returns in quick succession. All goes well until I decide to delete a message w/o adding it to the digest. After reading the next message, in my carelessness I may just hit the Up-arrow/cr/cr sequence, thinking I'll be moving it to info-vax, but instead I end up deleting it. Here's the rub. I would like to recover the deleted message. Unfortunately, if I SELECT WASTEBASKET, the message isn't there! As a matter of fact, it is nowhere in any of my folders. Ok, I know I should be a little more careful. I should also probably define a key to be "move info-vax"/terminate, but that doesn't help for the other times when I overzealously delete a message. It happens if I have AUTO-PURGE on or off, although next time I will try setting AUTOPURGE OFF, exiting MAIL and reentering again before I look in the WASTEBASKET. Any other hints? Feel free to respond directly and I'll summarize if I get any interesting responses.
