One of the goals of the BITNIC under the new membership structure and BITNET charter is the distribution of information service responsibilities. Part of this involves a different manner of addressing individual inquiries. Eventually such inquiries should all be directed to local BITNET support people. BITNET Institutional Representatives are being asked to appoint official local Information Services Representatives. This "liaison" structure should be in place the first quarter of '87. As part of the general plan INFO@BITNIC will no longer be answering questions directly. This action is being put into effect immediately because it is neither resource efficient nor possible to answer the present queue of 500 end-user questions in a timely fashion. At the present, we suggest receiving answers from help files available on file servers NICSERVE@BITNIC, DATABASE@BITNIC, NETSERV@BITNIC, from local user services personnel, and from the LIAISON@BITNIC working group.
