We have a uVax II and are planing to buy another one (maybe). We are using the uVax for gathering data from our pilotplants for process calculations and returning setpoints to controllers (we are using a asynchronous line). We are making process simulations at the same time we are using the pilotplant. We are also developing processmodels for the pilotplants. To the problem. I recently heard from Digital that it is possible to make a cluster of 2 uVax'es. It sound's good, but i havent yet got any specs about uvax clusters. We would want to be able to dedicate one uVax for "on-line" process calculations, while the other one would be available for program development. Sometimes even both could be "on-line" and sometimes none of them. Here are some questions i would like have answers to (if possible). 1. Is it possible in a cluster to dedicate one processor for sole use for a specific task. 2. What is the minimum disk space requirement for the "master disk" (vms disk). We have a uVax II with 1 Rd53 and bying 1 RD54 more, making this as the boot member. The new uVax should have 1 Rd53. Can anybody say if this is enough. As layerd products we have Fortran,CMS. 3 Whats the differance's between RD54's and RD53's except the capacity. Do they use the same controller. 4 Must I have 2 licenses of VMS (one on "boot member" and one satelite). or can i save money in software by making it a cluster. Is anybody out there going to cluster uVax'es ( or already done it), I would be gratefull for any piece of advice (encounterd problems or other things to take in consideration). Thanks in advance.
