[mod.computers.vax] network mail program

WARNOCK@clemson.CSNET (Todd Warnock) (01/01/87)

At the last DECUS, someone made mention of a mail program that would send
mail to remote VAXes (VMS, running DECnet). The neat part was that, if the
node was down, the mail was queued, and upon coming back up, the mail
would be sent to the appropriate place.
Does anyone know of such a beast ? Along the same lines, where does one
obtain information about writing foreign mail interfaces ?

Thanks, as usual !

You can get software from DEC which will do store-and-forward of mail.
The base product is called Message Router. It is a generalized mail
forwarding gateway service. You also have to get VMSmail Gateway, a
product which provides the interface between Message Router and VMSmail.
(There are other gateways for other messaging systems, such as ALL-IN-1
mail.) I believe you can get both products under a single order number
as a package, but I'm not sure of that. Check with your DEC sales
office.
