I just recently put in VMS 4.5 and shadowing on our cluster. I managed to get field service to come out and put in the CI rev which lets you run the v7 microcode. The CI rev is actually 5 new PROMS that replace an existing 5 on one of your CI780 boards. My field service guy brought out the latest rev RL02 console pack for the 8600/8650 so I could copy off the v7 CI microcode. I noticed that there was also new 6800 cpu microcode on the pack as well. The notes that came along with the microcode said there were performance improvements in it. I put the new cpu microcode in and the 8600 here seemed a little zippier than usual. I ran some benchmarks that I had run last year comparing the 8600 and our KL-10 (r.i.p. ... sniff). Some of the benchmarks came up with roughly an 8-10% improvement over the previous runs on the 8600. If you've got an 8600/50 you may also want to bug your field service guys about this new cpu microcode.
