There seems to be some misunderstanding by some people about my TCP file. It is *NOT* a SUMMARY. It is a 200-block file containing all the replies I got from my enquiry about TCP for VMS. If you request a copy, please make sure you have enough disk space and are prepared to do a LOT of reading. I send these out at night, generally, since the traffic is lower then. Secondly, DECnet on the SUN. This DECnet product is obtained from SUN. The cost is approximately $1750 (Cdn.). It is, from what I gather from those who are using it, an implementation of the DECnet that runs on ULTRIX systems. I don't know how SUN obtained it - probably by buying some special licence from DEC. We decided to go with this for two main reasons: 1. It is cheap and supported, whereas TCP-for-VMS implementations in most cases seemed to be only one or the other; 2. being only a less-than-3-person operation to support 8600 + 6xUVAX + 400-users + many-types-of-software computing setup, we simply don't have time to try and hack bugs out of something unsupported, and being also a University (-> grant-funded) operation, we can't afford to buy something supported (like WIN/VX at $10,000).
