The VMS version 4.4 release notes include a blurb about RMS Shared Access to the affect of "RMS now supports shared access to any form of sequential organization file..." I have an application written in BASIC (please, no laughter - the defense of VAX BASIC calls for a separate debate). It would seem that if the RMS claim above were true then opening files "ACCESS MODIFY, ALLOW READ" would in fact allow users to read records that weren't being modified. Right? Question: Is it possible that the version of BASIC I am using (2.4) has not caught up with the new RMS claims? If this is the case, is there any way (other than MACRO) to get around this? [We have v3.0 of BASIC but we can't install it for other logistic reasons.] Any suggestions/work-arounds/kludges would be appreciated. Mark H. Granoff MGRANOFF@CLARKU.BITNET
