[mod.computers.vax] GNU EMACS

sasaki@HARVARD.HARVARD.EDU (Marty Sasaki) (01/08/87)

Sorry to send this to the whole list, but there are a pile of people
that this message should go to and my record keeping system (system,
what system?) isn't good enough to send this out individually.

To everyone who has sent me tapes, I still have them. I have been
waiting for version 18 to be ready, which I thought would be very
soon. The problems are more deeply rooted than I thought and I really
don't know when it will be ready. I can either hold onto your tape
until version 18 is ready (which might be a week, or a few months,
don't know) or I can send you version 17.VMS-4.

If you have sent me a tape, then let me know. Sorry that I didn't get
back to you sooner, but I kept waiting hoping that I could give
everyone good news.

   Some time ago I received a copy of the GNU EMACS editor. I'm
aware that it is likely obsolete now, but at last we have someone
with time to look at it (it ain't me).
   When I looked at the package, I saw no obvious "cookbook" for
defining strange terminal types. The person looking at EMACS now
has asked for assistance in "editing SITE_INIT.EL". Is there a
file I missed which describes how to do this? Has anyone defined
any of our local terminal types (eg. TVI912, 920, 950, 950R;
ADM31, ADM3A; VC404, 404PF, 4404, 414, 415, 4152; XL84; VI300;
VIKING; HP2647)? The list here is not exhausitve, but as you can
see there are a LOT of different terminals in our user community.
   It is probably most expedient to post replies just to me. (I
expect a lot of sites will have definitions for me which will be
of little benefit flooding the net.) Thanks as always. b.
