Sorry to make this a teaser, but I want to save some of you from prematurely going out and buying MMS or something similar. I've been working on a version of MAKE for VMS on and off for a while, and just before Christmas I completed most of the changes on my hit-list. After a little beta-testing I'll be releasing the program (written in VAX C 2.2 for VMS 4.4+) to the public domain. I anticipate about a month before it becomes available. My version of MAKE supports all the UNIX features that could reasonably be expected to work (macros, default rules, etc.). I've used UNIX makefiles almost verbatim on my VMS system. I will be supporting it for the forseeable future since I use it myself heavily. And hey, if you don't like it you haven't lost any money. No mail requests to me, please. I promise to ignore them until I've made the release announcement. This is only a pre-release report. Cheers, Todd Aven the Softwear Sweatshop P.S. In view of the multiple queries on print symbionts... I'm about to start writing my own print symbiont (not a modified symbiont using PSM$xxxxxx). It is targeted for the current type of laser printers that require font management and accurate page accounting. I'll definitely be supporting QMS and LN03 printers, and any others for which I can get programmers' guides I'll consider. I'm tired of seeing all these blank pages coming out of my laser printer (are you listening DEC???). If anyone wishes to join the project, feel free. ------
