We're developing a distributed real-time aircraft simulation based on interprocesser communication over ethernet. The system is built around two DEC VAX computers running VMS and DECNET, however we foresee the addition of a Gould computer, some Sun workstations, and some special purpose 68xxx based computers. We're currently looking for an efficient network protocol that's available for a wide variety of systems. We've heard negative comments about the overhead of DECnet, and we're unsure about it's availability for non-DEC systems. Also, someone mentioned NFS, but we've never heard of it. Any information or pointers to information related to ethernet and network protocols (particularly NFS), or descriptions of similar systems will be greatly appreciated. Please send responses directly to me. Thanks, Tom Matthews Naval Air Development Center halko@nadc
