[mod.computers.vax] UNIX System specification

DLQ@UGA.UUCP.UUCP (02/03/87)

I've been asked to recommend hardware and software for an UNIX system. I've
no UNIX experience, but have been taking care of several VAXes running VMS.
Any help would be greatly appreciated. The characteristics of the desired
system are as follows:

1. VAX 750 or 780 size processor
2. 24 Async ports
3. 500 Megabytes of user disk space
4. 4.2 or 4.3 BSD Unix
5. 8 or more Megabytes of memory
6. A link to our current IBM systems for printing (we are running both VM
   and MVS)
7. Some arrangement for backup of the user files, and system files.

We have CDC Cyber hardware running NOS and a couple of VAX 780's running VMS.
Currently one of the 789's is connected to the NOS system via RHF. The other
780 is a standalone. The NOS system connects to the IBM's via NJE the IBM
Network Job Entry system.

Thanks again for your assistance. If you are willing to discuss it further
on the telephone please include a phone number.
