[mod.computers.vax] reposting

SYSRUTH@UTORPHYS.BITNET.UUCP (02/11/87)

It seems I have annoyed a lot of people by reposting my plea of last week.
Perhaps a little explanation would help.

I realise that messages generally do fail to reach someone. However, until
last week, the only branch I had ever had problems with was CSnet. With the
first two postings of that message, I got an unbelievable number of "failed
to deliver" messages. Some of you say you get this all the time; well, up
until then, I never had. I was quite concerned that large chunks of the list
might have been missed. And, in fact, that third posting got 3 useful
responses, only one of whom mentioned having seen the message before (of
course, that doesn't necessarily mean they hadn't).

At any rate, I did eventually get some help. So again, my apologies to those
of you who got snowed under, and my thanks to those of you who replied. The
upshot was basically that the DLVJ1 is near-trash for ordinary terminal
purposes. It is awkward to set up (jumpered) and awkward to software set.
I was also told it can't be relied on for >1200 baud. Incidentally, I believe
MicroVMS DOES support it now; it is mentioned in the Configuration section
of the Hardware manual, along with details on how to configure it.
