For those of you running PSI and thinking of upgrading to 4.5 (or those of you who have), the following two messages may be of interest. The first is a statement of a problem, the second is its solution (a patch from DEC). I have just ordered the patch myself. We are not at 4.5 yet, and I am not going until it arrives. Maybe we won't have any problems, but PSI is very heavily used here and I'd rather not find out the hard way that we will. The XGDRIVER shipped with VMS 4.5 and used by PSI has a bug that crashes VMS with either a Unibus map register allocation failure or an invalid stack exception. If you are using the sync port of a DMF32 don't upgrade to 4.5 until the patch arrives. I am waiting for mine now. I'll post the patch number when it arrives. Brian Power ================== Send-date: Tuesday, February 10, 1987 at 12:48 GMT+0330 From: Brian Power <power@garfield.mun.cdn> To: <demco@ean.ubc.cdn> Subject: dmf32 driver The patch for the dmf32 driver arrived yesterday. The documentation claims that the patch fixed problems with the VMS 3721, 2780, and 3780 Protocol Emulator as well as UBMAPEXECED bugchecks. Anyone who needs the patch can contact the Colorado Software Support Center and ask for the VMS 4.5 XGDRIVER patch. To those who responded that you didn't have a problem, you should thank your lucky stars!! We had as many as 5 crashes a day! The only thing that I think of is the rev level of the DMF32 board was out of date!! Brian Power
