[mod.computers.vax] Ansi control sequences with printer functions.

This question concerns the VAX being used to download a character
set into an on-line printer hooked up to the terminal.
For this to work with the ansi control sequences (print on, print off,
etc), the downloaded character set MUST be passed straight through
the terminal to the printer WITHOUT the emulation having an effect as
well as not loosing any ``PADDING'' NUL characters.

The latest version of Kermit 2.29b does not pass through all the chars
necessary for a download and neither does a terminal 'cause they both
strip off the NUL characters (which are necessary).

Are there other programs that have this capability (toggability?)
with either MSDOS system as the micro or as a different way to download
a file through the terminal to the printer?

The only thought at the moment is a switch at the back of the
terminal to switch directly to the printer and terminal so the
terminal does not interfere with the downloading fonts.

I hope I have made this clear as to what I want to do.
Hope some of you have some suggestions.
Thanks.
Dan.
