Hi again fellow Vax fanatics, I wrote to the network a few days ago asking about cluster performance and management. Thanks to all of you who sent me replys. The info helps a lot. Another question I have is now machine specific. We are considering the VAX 8300. This machine can possibly be configured as a cluster or just as a standalone. This will depend on the amount of money that can be spent. I need some specifics on the 8300 itself. I've heard some good things about it and some bad things. We face the possibility that once we get it, it will be maxed out to begin with, and therfore we are stuck with a slow machine. Unfortunately, DEC makes no 8400 which would see the likey choice in our case. Would it be wise to consider the 8500 and up even though price is a good $150,000 + over the 8300. I would like some info form 8300 users whether you have a single machine or a cluster. Do you like it? Do you wish you had another machine? Does it do the job for which you bought it? Any info would be greatly appreciated. thanks. Scott Marshall systems manager Trinity College, CT. BITNET: TRIN7@TRINCC ------
