Let's suppose we have a single CPU VAX machine (785,8600,etc..).
This machine is going to run a Database administrative package.
This package is going to rely on heavy DISK I/O.
Will there be significant performance differences if this machine has an
HSC controller?
Does it make sense for the type of application that the machine will be subject
to, to have the HSC controller?
Any help will be greatly appreciated as always. thanks...

We have several 8600's and 780's running HSC50 controllers
both in a clustered and non-clustered environment with Oracle being the
biggest application, We have one 8600 that was upgraded from a UDA50 to
and HSC and we experienced a significant performance increase. If you're
willing to consider equipment other than DEC, you might also want to look
at the System Industries SI Link and disc cache processor. I don't have
any experiences with either of these, but the specs look good and it
should be a viable alternative to the HSC.
