A few months ago I wrote a program which runs as a spawned subprocess off the operator accounts signed on to the consoles in out machine room. What it does is filter out duplicate broadcast messages and most broadcast messages from other nodes in our cluster. The savings in paper, and more importantly, the lack of numerous "bleep bleeps" when a disk goes offline, etc. has made it possible for our operators to work in a better environment. While it is running as a subprocess there are some things you can't do - i.e. set host, help/page - but the program is easily turned off and on between these tasks. If anyone would like the fortran source drop me a note (and include your network address in it) and I'll send it to you. -Jonathan. Bitnet: jhwelch@amherst
