[mod.computers.vax] XON/XOFF and printers

CARL@SCU.BITNET.UUCP (02/27/87)

We have just begun running a VAX 8650/VMS system in the last couple months
and have a problem that I suspect others have solved (it may just be out
lack of understanding). We are running several serial printers through
DECSAs (LAT protocol) and find that on large files queued to the printers
the output becomes "garbled" after a number of pages are printed. We
have traced the problem to the fact ^S from the printer appears to be
ignorred so the printer buffers overflow. We have used LATCP to assign
permanent ports for the printers. We have tried various combinations
of TTSYNC on the vax and ENABLING/DISABLING FLOW CONTROL on the DECSA
but the system does not seem to want to stop sending chars when a ^S
is sent (We tested this by putting a terminal on the the printer
port and pressing CTRL-S with no affect).

Anyway, I was hoping that if anyone out there is using serial printers
on a VMS system through DECSAs, they might be willing to tell us how
it is done?

Thanx for any help/suggestions...
