Robert McQueen asked about SAS or SPSS on VAX/VMS.
From my perspective as manager of User Services, SPSSX
on the VAX is great. SPSS provides excellent support.
Documentation is very thorough and comes in varying levels.
We have SAS but when we upgraded from VMS 4.1 to 4.5 I
believe it was, then SAS broke and would not run. We
jury rigged it (I mean "they", our Systems people) to
get it running, but SAS basically said to fix it, we had
to try to run an older VMS version. They are working on
a VMS 4.5 I hope.
I am a confirmed SPSS and SPSS/PC user so am somewhat biased
in favor of SPSS. SAS is nice for students (in addition to
SPSS) because SAS runs on so many other computers (read IBM).
