[mod.computers.vax] IVECS cards from Bridge company.

In reply to Johnson's query: We have here also IVECS cards installed on
VAX-11/750,785 which replaced a previously installed HSM cards.
I can't answer about the 8600 problem with these cards; All I can say is
that the biggest difference between the HSM and the IVECS I've noticed was
that I no longer had to run down to the computer's room to re-boot the
CS/1 box after deadstarting the VAX. This card also accumulates a lot of
errors due to timeouts.
I've noticed another problem with it: After a few days of working, some of
the ports only accept data and do not send back output from the VAX. I wasn't
able also to SET TER/NOMODEM them, because I got the error Device Timeout.
All I could do was going to the machine, openning the expansion box and
reseting the IVECS. Rebooting the VAX does not help (only power down/up...).
For the TTY_DMASIZE: It affects only the devices that knows to DMA. It'll
not affect none of your DZ. You can set the DZs to DMA also, but it won't
change anything... The only problem you might notice is that the system
spends more time in Kernel mode, since it does a lot of small size QIOs
with DMA. Since using a DMA requires more work than silo mode, it is
usually used only for big QIOs (default is 64 characters). Setting the
TTY_DMASIZE to 0 will force all your DMA terminal devices to use DMA
transfer even for 1 character output !
