Just thought I would let everyone know that something I brought up a few months ago has now been made to work. We got a DECserver 200/MC in a couple of weeks ago and connected it to our Ethernet. We are using it as dial-in ports from the campus PACX 2000. The idea was that people could then connect to whichever of our computers they wanted, instead of being restricted to hard-wired modems and DECnet. After some experimenting we found the right combination of pins required to satisfy both the DECserver and the Gandalf GLM518 MUX. These are: 2--2, 3--3, 4--4, 7--7, 5+6+8 -- 8, and 20--20 (DECserver is left #, MUX is right-hand #). It works like a charm; connects fine and disconnects fine on logout or hangup. The PACX 2000 has some nice features that lets us do things like change the length of the disconnection delay, set up an alias for the service number, send our carriage returns so the login prompt on the server comes up immediately, even set up the ports as dialout, although I have no plans to do this (we will keep a couple of hard-wired modems for that purpose). It looks like this will be a really nice addition to our set-up. Brent, Lord Protector at UWO, did you ever get yours going? I remember you had plans for this as well. Anyway, I hope somebody can make use of this. Ruth Milner Systems Manager University of Toronto Physics SYSRUTH@UTORPHYS (BITNET)
