[mod.computers.vax] SWINGing from tree to tree and smashing into one occasionally...

xrjjm%6173.span@JPL-VLSI.ARPA.UUCP (03/05/87)

This is in response to Denny Thury's problems with using the SWING sent via
INFO-VAX.

Problems I had with SWING:

1. Transmission Errors:
Look for possible <CR>'s in various files which will cause Compilation
errors. My copy crossed at least 2 mail gateways getting to me
(On SPAN) and I had a few.

2. Run-Time Errors:
Two subroutines have bugs in them. One is HARDCOPY, the other is FIND_NODE.
The bug is the same in both, a request to truncate a variable, like
JUNK(1:XX), where XX is out of bounds. In the case of FIND_NODE it trys
(1:0) and blows... in HARDCOPY it's (13:12) where the variable is only
    12 characters long.

(Anyone wanting details on these patches, please contact me at the address
     below...)

3. Include file errors:
Apparently some people have an enhanced version of $SMGDEF hanging around,
and you may find that SWING is referencing items in $SMGDEF that don't
exist. What you can do is globally change the Include($SMGDEF) to the
file SMGDEF.TXT which came with the source. That will clear up the
    problem.

(I have a quick and dirty program for doing that also... Send mail for a
     copy...)

Over all, I have found it to be a neat program, and I plan to release it to
my development staff as soon as I find all of the bugs.
