Hans - I could not decipher your net address from the posting so my response

You can check to see if a file exists and if it does - delete it.
$ IF F$SEARCH("mydisk:[mydir...]*.JOU") .NES. "" THEN -
$ DELETE/NOLOG mydisk:[mydir...]*.JOU;*
