[mod.computers.vax] RA81 spinup after power outage

Something's wrong here. The VAXCluster I used to manage had 5-7 RA81s,
two HSC50s and lots of power outages (we blow up BIG transformers here).
The RA81s, RM80s and RA60s would usually spin up by themselves unless
they experienced some type of failure (one RM80 liked to toss its drive
belt on occassion). Once the HSC50s rebooted, the system would taken
right off again on a (very) short power outage or the VAXes reboot on
longer ones. Talk to your field service people, something is not right!

I talked to Field Service, and he didn't believe me when I told him that
your drives spun up! Is there anyone you know of that I could talk to about
this? It seems that DEC needs to perform some sort of hardware modification
to make this work.
Thanks

Our field service is *very* sharp and has never heard of ra81's NOT spinning
up. Ours always do and he knows of nothing special about them.

It does take about 7 minutes for the hsc50 to boot and another few minutes
for vms to boot far enough where it needs to mount drives. During this time,
the lights are off ... but when needed they come on.
