[mod.computers.vax] scoop on RA81 spin-up...

flash@BRL-LVAX.ARPA ("Andrew J. Grigor") (03/20/87)

If an RA81 has been spun down due to a power loss or a dismount when
/NOUNLOAD has not been set, the drive will stay spun down until a MOUNT
request has been issued for the drive or the RUN/STOP button is toggled.

During system startup, the drives do not all come bouncing to life at the
same time because the sequencing cables allow one disk to fully spin-up
before another tries to. This protects the power distribution panel from
an accessive current draw.
