Anyone beta-testing this beast and wants to comment, I for one am all ears. What is it, exactly? What equipment is involved? How does it work? How is its performance? How are you using it? Does it work in Ultrix *and* VMS environments? Clusters? Network support? Does the Ricoh-40 engine do duplex? 300 x 300 resolution? Does the controller really do PostScript? Rumors from DECUS abound; facts are needed. -Ken Burner KB13@TE.CC.CMU.EDU -------

The last I heard, at October 1986 DECUS in San Francisco, the price of the PrintServer 40 with all that you'd need to make it go (POSTSCRIPT?) and whatever else was $57,000.00. This was quoted by a DEC salesperson. Elizabeth Gayman (GAYMAN@ARI-HQ1.ARPA) ------

Does anyone out there have any software to convert NCAR graphics files to Postscript? We just got a Prinserver 40, and we use the NCAR library to do a lot of our plotting. Previously, we had an LN01S, and used its Tektronix emulation to get hardcopies. The Printserver's Tektronix emulation is done by converting Tektronix to Postscript on our VAX 11/780. Our computer is saturated already, and plots take hours to come out. I can't afford to write my own, because it would takeforever, since I don't know Postscript. Any help would be GREATLY appreciated. Also, is there any way to set something up lke "PRINT/SETUP=module", where "module" can do something lke set margins, change fonts, etc.? Do I have to write a word processor? Does TeX have a Postscript translator? How easy is it to use?
