Kai, You should get your local field service office to "sign off" on whatever Unibus peripherals you want to put on your 8530. Our local and district field service offices told us that many 3rd party Unibus devices don't work on the BI Unibus adapter. Your local sales staff should include an engineer who can tell you what will work and what won't. This is supposed to be part of their bidding procedure when proposing new BI systems, according to our local DEC office. In addition, the BI Unibus adapter has a throughput of only 1 Megabyte per second, and only supports 5 buffered data paths. The older SBI UBAs (780,785,8600,8650) have a throughput of 1.5 Megabytes per second and support up to 15 buffered data paths. The 750's CMI UBAs also claim to have a throughput of 1.5 Megabytes per second, but only have 4 buffered data paths. I hope this helps. Selden E.
