Date: Tue, 21 Jan 86 10:39:45 -0500 From: Found in a Bottle A summary: the workstation is in two forms, a desktop and a floor model. The price range for the basic units is $11,700 to $19,510. The workstations have a PC-compatible bus so can run older PC peripherals. A 286 coprocessor board for the system allows DOS applications to run on the system, concurrently with AIX. Three displays were also announced: the 6153 advanced monochrome 12" 712x512, the 6154 14" (same resolution), and the 6155 extended mono 15" 1024x768. There is also a streaming tape and tablet. The announced operating system, AIX, is system V based with some extensions. Several application systems were also announced: SQL/RT data base, PC Personal graPHIGS, RT/F77, RT Basic, and RT Pascal (in addition, of course, to C and assembler), CADAM, CIEDS, RS/1, UNIRAS, WPS/Interleaf, Applix IA, IMSL, Samna, Solomon III. I understand from PC week the clamshell (IBM's lap top) is also announced today. I thought people might be interested in this announcement as soon as possible. Perhaps some of the people who have had this machine for the last few months can now tell us about it.
