[mod.protocols] Modem7, XModem for VAX/VMS

sutter@OHIO-STATE.CSNET (Bob Sutterfield) (01/21/86)

I am looking for implementations of the Modem7 and Xmodem protocols to run
on a DEC VAX under the VMS operating system, version 4.2. Sources in just
about any language would do the trick, but of course Macro would be handiest
to carry around in VMS-land. Public-domainness is a prerequesite.

We have been happily running Kermit for quite some time now, but some of our
users also frequent the commercial networks and the local BBSs and would
find it convenient to use the other common file-transfer protocols. So if
there are any other common protocols or variant dialects (isn't there
something called Xmodem/CRC?) that you know of that have been implemented on
VMS, please send me pointers. Thanks muchly...

Please let me know what you find out. I am porting a ZetaLisp Kermit
to MacLisp and I would like to add XMODEM and cousins for completeness,
but I am not certain of the protocol spec, or just what variants are
around these days. You can find a version of MODEM7 called LMODEM
written in MacLisp on the file MC:FJW;LMODEM > but since you're not on
the arpanet I suppose I'll have to mail it to you, after I ask FJW to
make sure it's the latest version.

The DECUS VMS SIG tape has two implementations of XMODEM -
VMODEM from Project Software
and another whos originator I cant find. The is supplied
for a handling charge from your local DECUS rep and has other
useful software on it.
