Hi, we are slowly putting together our various networks consisting
of Apple Lisas on Appletalk and PC's, and various Unix based systems
on EtherNet. We have several Apple LaserWriters currently connected
only to the AppleTalk networks. We communicate with the LaserWriters
via MAC XL Serve. We are considering ways of connecting the
AppleTalk networks to the EtherNet (we have Seagate style gateways)
and still allowing use of the LaserWriters by the Apples without
too much trouble. Problems:
1) I assume the MACIP stuff won't run with any other appletalk
stuff installed i.e. XL serve Am I right?
2) Assuming we get rid of XL serve (no problem), do we FTP
or TFTP the postscript files to a spool directory on a unix
machine? (no problem, but not as convenient as having something
installed as a driver in the apple)
How do other people do it? Do you put LaserWriters on appletalk or
off a Unix server?
Thanks, <Dave_Thomson@Carleton.BITNET>
