We had a beta test version of the QMS PS-800 (essentially a Laserwriter clone) connected up to our appletalk net, sharing the net with a Kinetics box. The setup worked fine until the beta-test printer broke and we swapped in one of the "real" units. Now the printer will not work unless the Kinetics box is disconnected from the net. The symptom is that it will accept and reply-to short format DDP NBP packets but long format NBP packets that come from the bridge get ignored. Before I go through the (painful) process of trying to convince the vendor that their appletalk is broken I wanted to check a few things: 1) Does anyone have a non-beta QMS PS-800 connected to (and working) on an appletalk net with a Kinetics box? How about on a net with another brand of bridge? 2) Is there some change to the protocols that this printer might have that would stop it from working with the Kinetics (running CAP UDP-GW code)? Could it be insisting on seeing ZIP packets before it believes there is a bridge there? Maybe it doesn't like zone '*'? Laserwriters do work with the Kinetics. Presumably the code running in the PS-800 is slightly newer than that in the Laserwriter Plus (the non-beta units were released in May, the code in the PS-800 comes from Adobe). -------
