[mod.protocols.appletalk] 2/87 KIP with CAP

farrell@erebus.UUCP.UUCP (03/14/87)

I installed the new 2/87 KIP release today and now the atis server from
the CAP library is not working. I would appreciate any hints to solve this.
Here is the situation.
UNIX host is a 4.2BSD Vax 750. One Kinetics box connects a single
AppleTalk net to the same local ethernet cable as the host. I was able
to get the 10/86 KIP release working and bring up atis, lsrv, and the papif
UNIX->laserwriter print spooler filter. The Stanford Mac/IP also worked.
EFS would not work because of the problem with IP broadcasting conventions
for the 4.2BSD Vax.
To install the new 2/87 KIP, I modified my /etc/atalkatab file to
use the "0" convention of 4.2BSD instead of the "255" convention of 4.3BSD
for broadcasts; downloaded the new gw.srec file to a Mac; and then loaded
it into the Kinetics Box. Stanford Mac/IP and the papif printer spooler
filter still work, but neither lsrv nor efsd work, so I attribute the problem
to atis. Any ideas?
   Thanks, Phil Farrell
