[mod.protocols.tcp-ip] Hyperchannel problem

mike@BRL.ARPA (Mike Muuss) (10/24/85)

At BRL we operate a 3-node Hyperchannel network which has
it's share of problems. One node attaches to a CDC Cyber,
and the other two are A440 ("minicomputer adaptor") nodes,
using the PI-13 UNIBUS interface.

About once a week or so, one of the three PI-13 boards
in the network will get "stuck", and powering the
A440 off and on does not help, nor does performing a
UNIBUS INIT. Only removing power from the PI-13
and restoring it will clear the condition. This can be
a real nuisance.

Also, several times a month, each Hyperchannel adaptor
will signal a power-off, power-on transition which none
of our PDUs claim existed. This is curious, but not
particularly harmful.

My question is: has anybode else on the list had similar
experiences with Hyperchannel equipment, and are there
known fixes? The vendor has not been very helpful
trying to track this problem down.
