1822 HDH stands for HDLC HOST. This is a Host/IMP interface which
uses a synchronous communication protocol. HDH uses HDLC LAPB
with a protocol layered on top to emulate the direct connect
interface. HDH is intended for use when the Host is more than
2000 ft from the IMP (Distant Host limit). Whereas the direct
connect interfaces are capable of running several hundred KB/s,
HDH is limited to about 76.8KB/s. Since most synchronous modems
operate in the 9600 to 56KB/s range, HDH is acceptable in those
applications.
