[mod.protocols.tcp-ip] terminal type subnegotiation

DP4Q@TE.CC.CMU.EDU (Drew D. Perkins) (11/22/85)

Has anyone implemented terminal type subnegotiation for telnet under 4.2?
I'm especially interested in the server end, but I'd like to here about
the client end too. How about for TOPS20?

My additions to 4.2bsd client telnet to support 3270 emulation include
a limited form of terminal type subnegotiation. Unfortunately, since
only servers on IBM mainframes currently invite terminal type
subnegotiation, my code takes that as a hint that it should reply with
the name of some sort of 3270. If you are uninterested in IBM
mainframes, you could change that code to return the value of $TERM.
