[net.sf-lovers] Ellison story

davem@ICO.UUCP (09/16/85)

I noticed in the closing credits of the movie "The Terminator", that the
movie was based on a short story by Harlan Ellison. Could someone give me a
pointer to a book (magazine?) which contains that short story? Thanks.

Harlan Ellison sued the makers of THE TERMINATOR for plagerism, and
got a settlement that included insetion of a credit to his works on
all subsequent prints and videocassettes of the film. The work he
felt that had been ripped off most significantly is not a short
story, but a television script: "DEMON WITH THE GLASS HAND," which
he wrote for THE OUTER LIMITS. Except for one truly dumb plot
device (that you can banish enemy time travellers back to the
future by yanking off their necklaces), DEMON was absolutely
brilliant. Robert Culp, always a powerful actor, essayed the
Schwarzenegger role.

OUTER LIMITS is an often great science fiction anthology series,
filmed two decades or more ago in black and white. It is
available in syndication. In the Toronto area, CKVR Channel 3
Barrie shows it around 3 in the mornings. Thank God for VCRs ...
