[mod.protocols.tcp-ip] Clarification on access control

mills@DCN6.ARPA (07/07/86)

Folks,

In my recent message on the status of NSFnet, please be advised that those
nets mentioned in connection with prototyping and testing, in particular
FORDnet and DCnet, are NOT part of NSFnet and are NOT intended to carry any
operational NSF traffic whatsoever. These nets were established and are
operated strictly for research and development only and do not carry
operational traffic for Ford or Linkabit either. In this and many other cases
in our proliferating Internet community, there is a big gulf between
connectivity, which is determined by architecture and engineering, and access
control, which is determined by administrative policy.

If you want to dial the President you can, but he might not want to talk to
you.

Dave
