[mod.protocols.tcp-ip] X.25 on ARPANET

rms@ACC-SB-UNIX.ARPA (Ron Stoughton) (09/23/86)

Hosts requiring X.25 Standard service must be connected to an IMP running
PSN6. I am not certain, but I don't believe many (if any at all) Arpanet
IMPs have been converted to run PSN6. Many will require a hardware upgrade
(C/30 to C/30E). Maybe someone from BBN can comment on this and give a
schedule for upgrading the Arpanet IMPs.

All,

ARPANET nodes have been upgraded hardware-wise to C/30e's. The upgrade to
PSN 6.0 software is proceeding now. However, all nodes have been running
PSN 5.0 for several months, and x.25 standard service was even possible
before that, under PSN 3.0/4.0 (although it required the loading of a
separate x.25 package).

The hardware upgrade on the ARPANET is complete. PSN 6 has been
deployed to a few nodes, and deployment to other nodes in ongoing.
I am not certain if a definite schedule has been established for
the remaining nodes, but I would expect that all ARPANET nodes would
be running PSN 6 within one month.
