[mod.protocols.tcp-ip] Clocks moving relatively

mills@huey.udel.edu.UUCP (01/11/87)

Folks,

Be advised on or about 22 January there will be a configuration change
affecting the connectivity of the NSFnet Backbone and client nets, as well as
the WWVB radio clock at Linkabit in Vienna, VA. The change results from the
rehoming of some DCNET (128.4) hosts and gateways from Linkabit to the
University of Delaware and the assignment of a new net MACOMNET (192.5.8) for
Linkabit hosts. The physical configuration of the hosts now at Linkabit,
including the WWVB radio clock, will remain the same. Only the net numbers
will change.

Timekeepers ticking with host DCN1.ARPA aka POGO aka DCN-GATEWAY.ARPA at
Internet addresses 128.4.0.1 or 10.0.0.111 should re-tick following the
cutover with MACOM1.ARPA aka LINKABIT-GW.ARPA at its Internet addresses
192.5.8.1 or 10.0.0.111. Use of the ARPANET address 10.0.0.111 is discouraged,
since the clock may be reconfigured in future or moved to another host.

Be also advised the TCP/TIME service is to be removed from all fuzzballs at
some time in the near future. This service will no longer be advertised in the
NIC data base HOSTS.TXT following the cutover. The TCP/DAYTIME, UDP/NTP and
UDP/TIME services will continue indefinately. Use of the TCP/DAYTIME service
on a regular, recurring basis is strongly discouraged and may lead to
discontinuing all TCP-based time services in future.
